If you've thought of September as a kind of "almost summer" consolation-prize month, brace yourself: in many ways it's better than the July–August peak-season rush. And no, we're not just saying that because we, at Aranyeső Apartment Houses, still have a few open dates in September. Okay, maybe a little. 😄
.. our pool cools you down, the kids are playing, dinner's sizzling on the grill.
but enough with the marketing..
Let's start with what matters, because we know this is basically why you come to Lake Balaton: to unwind. Balaton is a shallow lake that soaks up the heat all summer long, and in early September it gives it right back to us. The water can be as warm as 22–24 degrees – often warmer than what you get in June. So the "the water's cold already" line? Urban legend, nothing more.
And the beaches don't vanish overnight. In September most stretches of shore are still going strong, except you don't have to lay your towel down to the centimetre right next to your neighbour's, because there's finally plenty of room. Which leads us to the next point…
Let's be honest: peak-season Balaton is beautiful, but sometimes it feels like the whole country decided at once to take a dip right here, right now. Jostling for a parking spot, a snaking queue at the lángos stand, crowds as far as the eye can see. Weather too hot, hunting for shade.
By September all of this calms down. The air is still warm, the sun is still shining (hello, Indian summer), but the bustle wears off. In the morning you step out onto our panoramic terrace and you can hear your own thoughts while you gaze at Balaton, framed by the still-green foliage of the trees. The cycling, the stroll along the promenade, the ice cream – all just as good. It's the kind of calm you don't even get in peak season.
And before anyone asks: yes, the evenings are already pleasantly cool. Which means you can finally sleep with the window open without the AC drying out your throat. You can take in the scent of Balaton completely freely – just like I am now, writing this blog post on a summer night, in the hanging chair in the kids' room.
If you wake up in the night, you just glance out the window, and the sprawling Fűzfő Bay looks right back at you.
Here comes the part where we talk about ourselves a little. Aranyeső isn't a plain room in a big hotel where total strangers walk past you in the hallway. Or a multi-unit apartment where you have to share with others. Here the entire 300-square-metre apartment house is yours, in Balatonalmádi.
Seven bedrooms, up to 14 people, your own private pool where you look out over Balaton while the sun slowly sets. (The pool, by the way, runs until October 1st, so for September it's all yours.)
This setup is made exactly for the September trip with friends. You know, that "one last hurrah before the daily grind kicks in again" mood. Pool and beach by day, a barbecue in the garden in the evening, with ping-pong and darts on the side, and if it happens to start raining, there's the PS4 in the kids' room (which, by the way, has more in common with a gaming kingdom than a room). No forced mandatory programme – just the crew.
Plus, since you book directly with us, half your money doesn't disappear into some middleman's commission. And that means more lángos. Or ice cream. Or more wine. I'll leave that up to you.
A few things that are at their best by the lake this time of year:
September is quietly the best version of summer: warm water, open beaches, sunshine – just without the crowds and the hustle. And while we're at it: this is exactly the month when you can still easily find a free weekend with us, but the good dates go fast.
Don't leave it to chance. Check the available dates in our booking calendar, grab the weekend for the crew, and close out the summer the way it's meant to be – on the shore of Lake Balaton, in the comfort of a whole house.
See you in Balatonalmádi.
